Ethyl Hankey was born at Ramsgate on 7 Nov 1866, the only child of Montagu and Louisa Hankey.
No less than three of her grandparents were Hankeys. She was married on 9 Feb 1888 to Major Henry David Williams.
The Major grew up in the nearby village of Bradford Peverell, where his father Henry Blackstone Williams had been Rector until 1879.
The wedding took place in Maiden Newton and the ceremony was performed by Montagu, assisted by Henry David’s younger brother the Reverend Nelson Williams (they were related to Lord Nelson).
Ethel would bear Henry David five children, and because of the peripatetic nature of his job, most of them were born in her parents’ Rectory in Maiden Newton. She died in 1921.
