John Hankey (c.1676-1711)

John Hankey was living in Fenchurch Street by 1695, when he was apprenticed as a Haberdasher to his elder brother Henry Hankey, coming to his Freedom on 20 Feb 1702. Henry and John Hankey witnessed the will of Henry’s friend Alderman Thomas Turgis (Father of the House of Commons) in 1703, and a Deposition of February 1704 in connection with the will records that John Hankey of Fenchurch Street, Goldsmith, was then aged 27 years or thereabouts; evidently Henry and John worked together, probably in partnership.

John Hankey died in the parish of St Dionis Backchurch in December 1711, and a limited administration of his estate was granted in May 1713 at London to one Anne Higginson.
