She was the daughter of F/Lt. Stephen Alers-Hankey and Elizabeth Anne Papillon.
She married Robert Fitz Randolph Ballard, son of William Fitz Randolph Ballard, on 30 July 1962 at St. Paul's Church, Paget, Bermuda.
From 30 July 1962, her married name became Ballard.
