1912 - 1976
Only child of Tim Alers Hankey of Ashburton, Dick was born on 28 Aug 1912.
Educated at Imperial Service College and Captain of Devon Juniors cricket.
He was married on 30 Apr 1937 to Katherine Alison Sidey (1910-1999), daughter of GLW Sidey of Culmhead, Taunton.
He was a fruit farmer in the Taunton Vale before moving for a few years to Cricklease, Combe St Nicholas, near Chard. Dick and Sheila then moved to Westcombe, Culmhead, where they kept steeplechasers and were joint masters of the Taunton Vale Foxhounds.
They had two sons and one daughter:
- Ian Raymond b 23 Dec 1938; ed. Rugby; m 31 Aug 1974 Sylvie de la Flechere de Beauregard. Ian qualified as a chartered accountant in Bristol. He then worked for Hambros Bank, before moving to a French company in London. Ian and Sylvie had an enormous range of friends, especially in the West Country, and had homes in London, France and the Isle of Man. Ian was especially interested in Hankey family history.
- Tessa Anne b 5 Sep 1940; m 30 Nov 1968 William A.C.Theed, ARICS, of Combe Sydenham Hall, Taunton; issue.
- Nigel John b 14 Aug 1953. Husband of Pamela; father of one son Euan (a promising young racing driver)and one daughter Rebecca.
